Thank you, Detroit, for coming together to help FB4K change the lives of 2,409 kids in 2021!
On Saturday, October 2nd Home Depot and Free Bikes 4 Kidz partnered to collect over 2,000 bikes to be given to kids in need. Then, with the help of other local partners and individual donors, we collected hundreds more…almost 700 more, to bring our total collected to 2,749! Over the course of our 10 week season, 1,575 volunteers came to the Piston Group Detroit Plant in Corktown that we called our “warehouse”, and spent over 6,600 hours of their time to help us refurbish those bikes. On December 11 and 12, we gave some of those beauties away when dozens of pre-registered kids shopped for their very own bike in our warehouse – the smiles were so big they warmed the winter air. We’ve since given away a total of 2,409 bikes, all with a new helmet, to church groups, neighborhood groups and schools that serve kids in the community to spread holiday cheer throughout the city. Bikes that are collected but not given away are used for parts to refurbish other bikes, then the frames are recycled. Now we’ve packed up our massive pop-up bike shop to store it until we’re back in September 2022. Stay tuned for updates as we move into the New Year and begin planning for our 5th season next autumn. It’s a great feeling to know you’re helping a kid experience the joy and independence of riding a bike!

Here are some kids that will get a happier, healthier start on 2022 with some new wheels that you donated in 2021:
